Worry Craves Certainty
Feeling anxious? You're not alone. There is a lot of fear floating around, maybe you are feeling it? Our lives, our schools, our jobs, our normal got flipped upside down in just a very short amount of time.
Worry and anxiety craves certainty and when we are faced with the unknown our need to feel safe is ramped up. We wanted to share with you some information today to encourage you during this time.
1. Stress/anxious feelings are normal. Our brain has a stress response system that is biologically designed to keep you safe. This is your fight, flight or freeze system. When you feel physical systems of stress/worry/anxiety, this is NORMAL.
2. Allow yourself to feel the stress and anxious thoughts and feelings. Pushing them away and not "dealing" with them only allows them to further perpetuate if not now then certainly later they will bubble up.
3. Write down your thoughts or talk them out with someone you trust. Just because we are social distancing doesn't mean your support system has ceased to exist. REACH OUT!
4. Seek help! Many counsellors out there are taking clients via phone, zoom calls, FaceTime etc.
